Your tree

I have a corner bedroom with a beautiful tree right at the corner. I can’t see her trunk, but her branches fill both windows. Over the past few years it seems she is watching me fall asleep and wake up each day.

She has left her mark on me. I notice her courage to change a little each day. Her flexibility when it’s a blustery day. She turns toward, and catches, the light.

I hear the soft sounds of the fall rain on her leaves and wonder how it feels to lose every, single leaf. When the snow falls she shimmers in her beautiful dress of ice.

She stands tall, grounded, steady, rooted. She holds space for me, connecting me to something I cannot even describe.

Tree pose is like that. It’s a posture that feels like coming back to a place of steadiness, even when the winds of life are blowing, and it feels like you will lose every leaf of your life. You just might.

But you have roots. And a steady trunk, and branches that can bend, and not break. You have cycles and seasons too.

Here’s Adriene with some tree pose assistance. Watch the video and then turn it off.

Then be your own quiet tree. Be brave. Be still. Be steady. And just keep turning toward the light. Day after day.

Be well, it’s a state of mind.
