rifles, weather and geography
It seemed like a good place to stop. I was covered in mud and it was pouring…the weather had changed.
First, I noticed the table of rifles. Then the seats filled with kids. My heart skipped a beat. Ah, yes, this was rural PA. (I was riding my bike near Ohiopyle in southwestern PA.) The folks at the Turkey Trot Fish and Game Club were gracious when I asked for a plastic bag for my cell phone and I went on my way.
The thing about this time of year that I love is getting out-of-town, out of the day-to-day of my predictable life. Finding myself in unexpected places. A change of geography is good for my soul.
Dr. Oz talks about your body’s DNA and genetics as its geography. You may have San Francisco while I have Paris. Both great cities. Very different. What you might do in San Fran may be completly insane to try in Paris. And visa versa. (Think about buildings and roads and bridges!)
What works for your body’s geography might not work for mine. Even with the best laid plans, with time and weather, even geography changes. You might get into an accident, get lyme disease, lose fifty pounds…or who knows what.
Your approach to your health and wellness might also have to change. I never imagined I’d be going on 30+ bike rides covered in mud. But the geography changed. My hips decided my running days were over. The more I tried to run, the worse I felt.
I had to let go of that vision, heal and find what my body geography could do instead of getting stuck on what it could not. Biking has been awesome. Actually, even better than running.
Where are you with your body geography? Is it time for something different? If you’re away from home, no one will know who you are, so go for it. Be a kid. Let loose.
But remember, trying something new means saying YES to the unexpected. It means falling off your bike and riding in the rain. It’s the unexpected that makes it all the more fun.
Let me know how it goes.
Be well friends…it’s a state of mind.
