flexibility and strength
As we continue to explore flexibility, hip tightness and flexibility is always part of that conversation. With so much sitting in the daily lives of most Americans, the hips can become tight. But it’s a bigger conversation, beyond increased flexibility.
I’ve written about my favorite pose, pigeon and it’s a pose my hips need every day. But my new favorite yogi, Olga, really explores the details related to hip flexibility and also offers wise advice.
We also need to balance hip flexibility with strength. For your at home practice this week check out her hip strengthening video.
One of my favorite, easy poses to do at work is a seated pigeon. It’s gentle and easy to do while on a conference call or at a meeting.
Sit at the front edge of your chair. Cross one leg over the other (the bottom leg can also be extended straight with your heel on the floor) and flex the foot of your crossed leg. Then hinge from the hips. Take 8 long deep breaths.
Enjoy, rinse and repeat, on the other side.
Be well…it’s a state of mind.
