Letting go to fly - Prasada

What do a trapeze artist and a yogi have in common? More than you might think. A trapeze artist swings from one set of bars to the next with ease and an enormous amount of faith. When she lets go of the one set of bars there is a second that seem to last forever before she is reattached to the next set of bars.

Practicing yoga is like that. Letting go even has a fancy Sanskrit name, aparigraha. If the trapeze artist clung to that first set of bars there would never be a show. Life is like that too. If we cling and hold onto things past when they are serving us, there is no possibility of moving beyond, or grabbing the next set of bars. Leaning into the possibilities is awesome, but it’s in the letting go that something breathtakingly amazing happens.

In every pose there is the opportunity to practice letting go as you soften muscles and relax into the shape. In every breath there is the opportunity to let go and release the breath so there is room for the next inhale.

How do you see your practice helping you to let go of things that you have outgrown that are holding you back? See if this week you can focus on the softening, the leaning in, the letting go. Be with the fear and the possibilities. Let me know what happens.

Be well,
