The Happy List

Take a moment to think about 3 things that make you the happiest. It is likely that the simple act of thinking about these things have brought a smile to your face. There are so many opportunities to learn from this simple exercise. However, perhaps the greatest lesson is that you can control your thoughts and, therefore, your mood.

Often times, the things that make us happiest take planning and time. For many of us, time is something we regard as a limited resource. How many times have you found yourself wishing there were more hours in the day? The bottom line is that time stops for no one and, as my yoga teacher loves to say, “If not now, when?” By denying yourself that which makes you happy, you are postponing your bliss! Take one thing from your “Happy List” and do it today!

For me, there is nothing more uplifting than being out in nature, quietly observing an animal or mindfully practicing yoga. I can get a taste of each every day! A quick walk and a simple yoga practice are all it takes to lift my mood. If the weather does not permit me to spend time outdoors, practicing yoga indoors (even if it’s only for 20 minutes) is enough to lift my mood.

You have all practiced observing your mental, emotional and physical states both before and after your yoga practice. You have seen first-hand the shifts that take place and how taking that short amount of time for yourself can make such a difference in your overall well-being. Why not do that for yourself at home? Begin with a short meditation, a few Sun Salutations, a few seated and standing postures of your choice and a relaxing Savasana. This can be done anytime, anywhere! You deserve that few moments of unadulterated happiness every day!

Be Well,
Amy Kovatis
