The biggest lie

In the mornings I get two teenagers ready for school. Lately we’ve been listening to Elvis Duran, a NYC dj, and his crew of hilarious sidekicks.

As a joke, he recently asked: “What is the biggest lie you’re telling yourself?” Listeners called in crying. Not his intent. Something about this question touched a nerve.

Often we’re lying to ourself about our health. Lying to others does not feel good. Lying to ourselves feels even worse.

The excuses about not getting to the gym or eating right, and feeling bad about it, drain your energy. Eventually, as the statistics show, some disease will catch up with most of us and rob us of time, money and energy. (80% of all diseases that Americans get are preventable.)

It doesn’t have to be that way. Imagine what else you might use that energy for. It could be used to figure out the way to move your team’s idea forward. Maybe get your resume together to apply for that job where you could really make a difference?

The excuses about how important your health is, and why you’re not taking it seriously, are costing you big time. When you don’t use your energy in ways that move your life forward and share what you have to offer, the world misses out. And you miss out on how great it feels to live life to its fullest–to thrive.

What would it feel like to commit to your health in 2014 as a top priority in your life? What if you were a professional athlete and your livelihood depended on your health? Actually, no matter what you do, your livelihood does depend on your health.

Studies show that big changes often work better than small ones. What would that look like for you? Thirty minutes of cardio every day? Yoga three times a week? Eliminating refined sugar from your diet? Training for a 50-mile bike ride?
Start thinking about it now. Like a surfer, it’s time to paddle out and get ready so you can catch the wave of collective intention in January. Think big, be bold and prepare to enjoy the ride.

Be well friends…it’s a state of mind.
