A mindful burger

Perhaps we are taking the mindful thing a bit too far? I’m in Chicago and came across EPIC Burger…and the awning reads “A more mindful burger”. Hmmm…can a burger be mindful? Much less more mindful? More mindful than what? Another kind of burger?

And where is the evidence of this mindfulness? Is the patty getting measured? Do the condiments you add to the burger add or detract from its mindfulness? It all gets a bit silly.

On my flight over I finally had time to dig into the August edition of Mindful magazine. This is a new magazine (www.mindful.org) with barely a year under its belt. It’s making headway to present science based evidence about how mindfulness works. The reality is however that if we wait for imperial, scientific based evidence for everything, we’ll be missing out on some real potential for change. For that matter, even with imperial evidence not everything works for every person.

I’m the kind of person that will try things…many things as long as they do not seem like they will harm me, or another person irreparably. I try things because I am curious and committed to personal growth. Sometimes these things, like journaling, which really works for me, do have a body of research “proving” the benefits in helping a person sift through past experiences, make sense of them, reframe them and use them to inform your life.

Mindfulness has a great body of research which we’ll be sharing with you over the next few months. But in the meantime, if you’re curious, just do it. Go to our resources page at www.prasadawholebeing.com for links to some mindful movement, guided meditations and a body scan. Today is your day.

I’m going go get one more mindful burger before we leave town. It can’t hurt.
