Pumpkin-stravaganza

The air is starting to feel like Fall, some of the trees are starting to change their colors, and there’s one thing on many people’s minds: PUMPKIN. That’s right, pumpkin. Don’t tell me you or someone you know didn’t gasp aloud in delight when that famous coffee shop or gas station finally revealed its seasonal treasure. My sister and boyfriend are both pumpkin-crazed and I got a phone call from one and an email from the other on that day.

I love pumpkin too, but I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to pumpkin. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t turn down a sip of your fancy pumpkin spice smoothie or a piece of your 18-layer-gold-leaf-pumpkin-wedding-cake-that-you-made-in-your-free-time-yesterday. But the pumpkin things I truly love hail from what I’d imagine the days of yore were cooking up. Pumpkin pie, yes. Pumpkin butter, definitely. Let’s roast the seeds for a snack, yum! Start your day off right with some pumpkin oatmeal, for sure.

October is Eat Better, Eat Together month and we’ll be bringing lots of great ideas, stories, and recipes to you each week. We’re here to help you think about how you can incorporate more of what you love into your life, in a healthy and connected way. Isn’t is usually true that food tastes just a little bit better when you’re spending time with someone that you connect with?

Pumpkin is one of those things that bring my boyfriend and I together. He loves pumpkin so much and it’s quite endearing. I want to humor him in his obsession of these funny, orange vegetables. This year we’re planning on going to a pumpkin patch, and he’s also already picked out a few pie pumpkins for us to explore creating new dishes, such as pumpkin polenta! If you’re not quite sold on the pumpkin, maybe these fun, pumpkin health facts will encourage you to pick one up this season.

What do you love about Fall? Do you have a favorite pumpkin recipe? Please share with us and your words may just be featured in our next newsletter!!
