Say yes to the breath

In my life, I have been the queen of making things complicated. Often much more complicated than they needed to be. I know how I developed this skill. It was part of the process of becoming an architect, where you are figuring out very complicated things. Structures, systems, materials, finishes, equipment. My mind became a highly trained machine as coordinating, envisioning, creating, managing.

You’ve heard the saying when you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. With a mind like that, I could turn even simple things into complex projects. And I did. Even life was a complex “project.”

I still see the expression of my dearest teacher Jan. The love for me was so big and yet I could see her awe and a hint of exasperation when I’d arrive and lay out the complexities of my life. One day she said to me in her most gentle way, “You are not there yet Alice, but you are on your way. It’s all really simple.”

She didn’t share how or why or the secret of simple. That was not her way. She’d just keep shining a light so I could see my next step, my next breath.

Sometimes life has a way of revealing the secrets in the most unexpected places. Sometimes we even see those secrets if we have learned to be quiet and pay attention to the details of the lush tapestry that is our life. I used to be afraid of that quiet place. The complexity filled that space. The projects filled my time. The stories and opinions filled my mind. There was no room for peace.

In that quiet place is the simplicity of life. It is one breath, and another and another. Right here in this moment. I can choose to relax. I can choose to receive. I can choose to allow that life force to come within me. Over and over again, it’s back to the breath. Receiving and surrendering.

It is that simple. One breath at a time. Saying yes.

This week tune into your breath and let Ocean Breath help you find your way.

You can do this.
